Gulmarg is a town, a hill station, a popular skiing destination and a notified area committee in the Baramulla district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is situated in the Pirpanjal range in the western Himalayas.

Gulmarg located at a height of 2650 meters is at a distance of 56 km from Srinagar and takes about an hour or so to reach by taxi via Tangmarg. Located in the Baramulla district of J&K, close to the LOC

Gulmarg is not a permanent settlement but it is a resort town. You would only find resorts and hotels but no houses there. Situated at the western end of Himalayas in the Pir Panjal Range, the alpine forests of Gulmarg, gentle meadows, and long stretching slopes make this a favorite summer and winter ski destination.
Gulmarg, known for winter destination for skiers is located in the Himalayas at a height of around 9000 feet and is a resort town fit for the kings. It was king Yusuf Shah Chuk, ruler of Kashmir and a contemporary of the Mughal Emperor Akbar who modify its name from Gaurimarg to Gulmarg, naming it after the flowers. One rarely sees these flowers as Gulmarg remains covered with sheets of ice and snow.

• By Road– Regular Government and private buses direct to Gulmarg from Srinagar, Sonmarg and other neighboring towns in Kashmir
• By Train– No direct Railway station of Gulmarg Nearest Railway station Jammu 290 km far.
• By Road/Self Driving – Gulmarg is 57 km from Srinagar, 1-2 hours of continuous driving, sometimes it takes more time due to winding more.

Best time to visit

October – June is the best time to visit heaven of India.

• Gulmarg in summer (April – June) Very pleasant temperature in summer 13-26 degree Celsius
• Gulmarg in Monson (July – September) This is OFF season to visit Gulmarg
• Gulmarg in Winter (October – March ) Temperature lower than -4 * Celsius

Baba Reshi Shrine in Gulmarg –

The sacred shrine of Baba Reshi in Gulmarg holds a fusion of striking architecture and spiritual importance. Mughal and Persian style of architecture has been beautifully blended together to create it. This is a three-storied building with some notable wood carvings inside. You also get to see a unique roof spire, rising out of the rooftop.

Food in Gulmarg

Meals in small Dhabas near Gulmarg are around Rs 200- 250 per person. The dished are very tasty
All hotels can arrange food even there kitchen is closed.
The Dhabas around the main market in the village are similar and cheap. There a group of Dhabbas near the Gondola Midstation and Kangdoori

Things to remember in Gulmarg

As Temperature in Gulmarg remains below zero for the major part of the year. Keep your body well covered with gloves, boots, overcoats to keep warm.
On the way of Gulmarg market, there are small and big shops where you can rent/buy heavy woolen boots
